#6 Watch Much, if Not All, of Adventure Time

For the past few years now, I’d been hearing a lot about this cartoon called “Adventure Time” during my travels across the inter-networks. It kept showing up on websites like i09, which is written for nerdy adult readers like me – not in a porny way though. Ok sometimes in a porny way...but still.

I’m already the type of adult who watches cartoons – I’m a regular at Bob’s Burgers, the Simpsons, and Studio Ghibli, and of course I love Disney movies as we all should. So when I started hearing about a cartoon that was meant for kids but that adults proudly loved as well, I was intrigued. Looked cool. Bright colours and happy doughnut people and stuff.

So I read the Wikipedia entry for Adventure Time, and when they mentioned that the creator was inspired by movies like Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle, I was sold. I put Season One of Adventure Time on my "Christmas List" Pinterest board without having ever watched an episode.

My wonderful, intelligent, amazing, beautiful cousin Sarah saw my odd pin, and actually bought it for me. When I opened it on Christmas day, she says "I saw this on your Pinterest. I have no idea what this is. You are weird."

By mid-January, I’d watched all of Season One, and decidedly loved this show. There are parts that are just so funny – and not in a crude, gross, or sarcastic way either. Just originally funny. For example: Baby Finn dancing in the bathroom, singing “I’m a tough, tootin’ baby, Im-a puncha yo buns! Puncha yo buns!”

I especially like their way of replacing expletives with every day words, like “What the math?!” That way, you can still have characters talking like normal people talk - with curses and slang - but it is inoffensive to delicate little minds. Oh, and there’s a miniature green elephant with a Southern drawl named Tree Trunks who bakes pies and is my favourite everything.

"Tree Trunks, get those hot buns in here!"

Anyways, currently only Season One is out on DVD, and as I am incompetent at illegally downloading TV shows* without getting viruses, I thought I was out of luck and that I wouldn’t get to see more.
It does air on Teletoon at 6pm, but this is not a convenient time for me and so I usually miss it. I thought I was doomed, DOOMED FOREVER!

I even bought the DS game  that is clearly meant for children. What a nerd
Then out of the blue, Mom ordered a new digital receiver and PVR for our TV and now I can watch whenever I want. Schmowzow!

*but I’ll risk it for Game of Thrones.
