#59: Jammin' with Jeanie

A few years ago, I blogged about my first ever attempt at making jam - mentored by my very good friend Jeanie. It was ever so fun! But the results were...mixed... I wanted 2013 to be the year I levelled up my jammin skillz.

Due to schedule conflicts (mainly - my having three odd-hour jobs), I had to solo jam this time - but I think the results show improvement. Possibly. I've never had apricot jam before so I'm not really sure what it is supposed to be like, but I didn't gag and die when I ate it so I'm going to give myself a pass.

Last week at the Steam Museum we had a big donation of local apricots from the Hamilton Farmer's Market for an event, and there were almost two full baskets leftover. Staff ate some of the leftovers, but we couldn't eat them all. I felt bad that all these tender little fruits might get wasted, so I took them home and boiled them in hot sugar until they turned to goo.

And the goo was good! Sweet, but with a tangy punch.  I think that is how it is supposed to be? I ate it on a croissant for lunch today, and I kind of want to do it again tomorrow.
