My parents own a dinky little cottage on Lake Erie. It is not a glamorous by any stretch. Pretty much, it is just a shack, located in what has become a grody biker neighbourhood near the lakeshore in Selkirk. The roof is uneven, part of the ceiling is falling down, and there are several spots on the floor that could possibly cave in. But, I still like it. My family spent a lot of time there when I was little, going up on weekends during the summer. On nice days, we would walk down the lane to the seaweed-y beach, collect interesting rocks and fossils, swim, get sweet tans, and on icky days we stayed inside and played Super Nintendo, or Monopoly. Fun times.
Lately we haven't had many chances to go down to the cottage together as a family, so this summer I put #17 on the list for nostalgia's sake. And two weekends ago, I crossed it off. My Mom, Dad, and I all got a chance to go down to the cottage together (minus my sister...but it still counts.), to celebrate Dad's b-day and Father's Day.
It was good. Walked on the beach, read in the sun, had a BBQ and a fire in the backyard, all that jazz.
My parents walking on the beach. Also, there were baby Canada geese.
It melted.
Clearly I have not taken that cake decorating class yet.
And that was my weekend @ cottage + fam.
OH! I just remembered. I also saw a hummingbird while I was there. Done and done!
